Hi, I'm Tim Scanlin. I'm a music lifer, with over 30 years in the industry, wearing almost every hat imaginable. Here's the 60-second story:

  • Grew up skating and going to punk shows in Long Beach, California.

  • Graduated from Berkeley (Art History) and stayed there.

  • Worked in a record store for 3 years. Learned about Beethoven, Beefheart, Bambaataa, and everything in between.

  • Founded and published a nationally-distributed music magazine called SnackCake! for 5 yearsmanaging a volunteer staff of 20.

  • Started a band that released 5 albums on various established indies and toured everywhere over the next 10 years.

  • Spent 3 years as a staff editor at MTV News Online, then as a full-time music journalist, freelancing for a variety of national outlets.

  • Moved back to L.A.

  • Assisted music supervisor G. Marq Roswell and learned the ropes of supervision and clearance.

  • Spent 3 years as Director of A&R at Rhino/Warner Music Group working on reissues, boxed sets and best-ofs for Black Sabbath, Ramones, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Yes, Joy Division and many others.

  • Co-founded Brandracket with Chris Parker to bring artist-brand collabs into the 21st century. As both biz dev lead and music supervisor, spent 15+ years doing music strategy, supervision and clearance across every type of media for some of the biggest lifestyle brands in the world, including United Airlines, Patagonia, Activision/Blizzard, Quiksilver, Under Armour, Gucci and others.

  • Started consulting for legacy artist management firm Jampol Artist Management (The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin)

  • Started Ten Divisions (March, 2022)

Despite the horrific Eaton fire, I'm proud to remain in beautiful Altadena, California, with my wife, two sons, six guitars, two cats, and a commercial-grade espresso machine.
